‘Crackdown on unpaid interns hired by top firms’

Recently the Daily Mail published an article stating that HMRC had received a list of companies, many of which are household names, that are breaching employment rights laws, by failing to pay their workers.

Investigations revealed that the workers were being exploited and the HMRC (who enforce the minimum wage)  are now writing to 200 companies who have advertised unpaid internships. The companies now face fines, and being publicly named and shamed for failing to pay workers minimum wage.

The Department of Business, Innovation and skills  are concerned that interns are being exploited and made to work full time for positions that should be paid.
